1355551 Coil springs HOESCH AG 14 May 1971 [6 June 1970] 14895/71 Heading F2S A coil spring with at least partly progressive force-deflection characteristic is wound at least partly from wire of so-called "truncated ogive" form i.e. wire whose diameter d varies with its distance l from the end of the wire in such a way that where Co = specific elasticity. G = modulus of elasticity. d max = maximum diameter of wire. d o = minimum diameter of wire. D=average diameter of the coil spring turns. The progressive part of the force-deflection characteristic is required to satisfy the following equation where X max is the total displacement of the spring over the whole of the progressive part, P max is the force corresponding to the displacement X max , X is the displacement representing a portion of the progressive part, and P is the force corresponding to the displacement X. With the truncated ogive wire the torsional shearing stress has the same value at any point along the wire.
