Abstract

1355338 Measuring pressure electrically PLESSEY CO Ltd 20 Aug 1971 [15 July 1970] 34265/70 Heading G1N An aneroid capsule for measuring atmospheric pressure is associated with a variable capacitor connected in an oscillator circuit whose frequency is therefore indicative of the pressure. As shown Fig. 1, a fixed plate 8 supports a three-stack aneroid capsule assembly 1 attached to a circular electrode 2, and also carries a tube 12 supporting fixed electrode 3. The assembly is housed in a container 13 with silicone oil 17 to level 16 covering the electrodes 2, 3 and also fixed capacitors 18, 19. The capsule 1 is subjected externally to atmospheric pressure via holes 35, 24. The capacitors 2, 3 and 18, 19 selectively determine the frequency of oscillation and by combining the three frequencies the atmospheric pressure is determined independently of variations in temperature.
