Abstract

1354985 Ball joints REGIE NATIONALEDES USINES RENAULT 3 June 1971 [30 June 1970] 18895/71 Heading E2F [Also in Division F2] A ball 10, Fig. 1, is retained in a socket having a frustoconical part 3 with its major base connected to a part-spherical bottom 2 by a retaining member 4 comprising a split, resilient ring surrounding the ball and located in said part 3 and so shaped that, in the event of relative axial movement between the socket and the ball, it gives a wedging action to prevent such movement, the arrangement being such that, Fig. 7, there is at least one imaging, conical surface C 11 tangential to both the ball and the surface of the ring 4a and such that the difference between the apex half-angle # 1 of said surface C 11 and that α of the frustoconical part is less than or equal to the sum of the apex half angles of the friction cones at the points of contact A1, B1 of the ring 4a and said conical and frustoconical surfaces. The joint may connect a shoe 5, which cooperates with a swash plate 7, to a piston 1 of a pump. Lubrication passages 13, 14 are provided.
