Abstract

1354737 Wet combustion of waste liquors ASSOCIATED PULP & PAPER MILLS Ltd 16 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 38369/71 Heading C1C [Also in Division B1] A method of wet combustion of waste liquor (e.g. black liquor) comprises subjecting the waste liquor to one or more preliminary oxidation stages to obtain partially oxidized liquor, separating gases from the partially oxidized liquor after each preliminary oxidation stage, and subjecting the partially oxidized liquor to a final oxidation stage, oxygenating gas under pressure being used in each stage. In the apparatus shown, waste liquor and air is introduced into oxidation zone 11 by pipe 30 and disperser means (not shown), and the partially oxidized liquor is conveyed by pipe 16 to distributing device 18 from which streams of partially oxidized liquor are discharged tangentially to the wall of vessel 10. The gases which separate from the partially oxidized liquor are vented at outlet 39. The partially oxidized liquor is passed downwardly through oxidation zone 12 countercurrently to oxygen or oxygen-rich gas supplied through inlet 32 and disperser means 33. .The oxidized liquor is discharged through outlet 38. The disperser means 33 comprises two perforated circular pipes from which extend perforated radial pipes. Perforated baffles 20 are provided in zone 12. The level 42 of liquor in zone 12 is controlled by controlling the rate of discharge of the oxidized liquor.
