Abstract
1444026 Dispersing gases in liquids WATER RESEARCH CENTRE 2 Aug 1973 36854/73 Heading B1C In a method of clarifying floculated impure water by dissolved gas flotation, pressurized gas-saturated water is discharged into the water to be treated through a nozzle comprising a chamber having constricting inlet and outlet orifices so arranged that the gas-saturated water undergoes a substantial change in direction and loss of pressure whereby bubbles are released. As shown the chamber 10 is formed by discs 2, 3 having inlet and outlet orifices 4, 5, the latter being the larger. The reduction in pressure on passage through orifice 4 and the turbulence caused by sticking the walls of the chamber causes gas to come out of solution in the form of fine bubbles. The chamber may discharge through a shroud 12 with the water to be treated. The gas is conveniently air, and the floc may be formed by treatment with an iron or alumimum coagulent.
