Abstract

1354692 Compositions comprising microcapsules MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON Ltd 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 12244/70 Heading B8C [Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Coating compositions, particularly corrosioninhibiting compositions for application to metal surfaces, comprise a dispersion of microcapsules in a liquid which is capable, on application to a metal surface, of drying or curing at ambient temperature to form a hard, pore-free, waterresistant coating without rupture of the microcapsules, which contain a liquid material capable of drying or curing at ambient temperature on exposure to the atmosphere. Preferably the microcapsule contents are an air-drying or -curing resin or two components which react to form such a resin when mixed. In the latter case, one component, e.g. an epoxy resin or a polyester, is contained in some of the capsules and the second component, e.g. a diamine or an isocyanate, is contained in the others. Thus, accidental abrasion or damage to the coating causes rupture of the microcapsules, and release of their contents, curing of which maintains the integrity of the coating.
