Abstract

1354281 Coated panel and coating apparatus M HAYWARD and A M MITCHELL 19 April 1971 [2 Feb 1970] 4942/70 Headings B2E and B2L A decorative panel comprises a self-supporting base sheet of chipboard, floorboard, blockboard, hardboard, plywood, glass or metal having adhered to at least one surface thereof a layer comprising different coloured resins optionally containing filler material and/or resin having a pattern embossed and/or impressed in its surface and optionally containing filler material, the resin being an unsaturated polyester or epoxy resin which cures on and bonds to the surface of the base sheet in the cold state. Paper, textile fabric or glass reinforced plastics may be disposed between the surface of the base sheet and the resin layer. Textural material, e.g. granite chips may be applied on to at least a portion of the resin layer prior to curing. As shown in Fig. 1 apparatus for producing the decorative panel comprises a support 2, carrier 5 carrying a plurality of dispensers 7 for liquid resin, the support and carrier being mounted for relative movement so that liquid resin can be applied to the upper surface of the base sheet placed on support 2. In the particular embodiment carrier 5 comprises a shaft 6 on which are mounted dispensers 7 and which projects from a pantograph device. The shaft 6 is manually turnable about its own axis. Mounted above support 2 is a frame 41 for holding template 42 used to guide the movement of pantograph 5 which includes projecting finger 43 for following the contour of the template. As shown in Fig. 2 each dispenser is mounted on a bracket 16 secured to shaft 6 and comprises a container 17 secured to holder 18 by screw clamp 9. The holder is formed with nozzle 24 extended by rubber tube 25 which projects through pinch valve 34 operated by solenoid 35 to control flow of resin through the tube.
