Abstract

1354260 Valves EFFEBI S & S 7 March 1972 [23 March 1971 3 Dec 1971] 10473/72 Heading F2V In a valve comprising an operating spindle 1 guided in a sleeve in the body of the valve, the spindle is provided with an intermediate collar 2 having parallel planar upper and lower surfaces and two overlapping pairs of wedge-section annular seals 10, 10<SP>1</SP> and 11, 11<SP>1</SP> and a locking bush 9 screwed into the upper end of the sleeve, each pair forming a sealing surface which is inclined at an angle to the axis of the spindle and one seal in each pair being slidable over the other seal. The seals are force-fitted into the sleeve or on to the spindle. The sealing of the ball 23 is shown in detail in Fig. 4 and comprises a plastics seal 27, and a washer 25 of spring steel which forms a gap 26 between itself and the body 6 to allow bending of the washer.
