Abstract
1353907 Hoists MARTONAIR Ltd 13 Aug 1971 [21 Aug 1970] 40326/70 Heading B8B [Also in Division F1] A hoist is powered by a rotary air motor which comprises a stator 12 and a coaxial generally cylindrical drum 19 with an inner surface defining a cam track 20 which cooperates with pistons 15 which reciprocate in cylinders 14 to rotate drum 19 when the cylinders are supplied in a predetermined sequence with compressed air via an air distributer. The distributer comprises valve ports 32 for supplying air from inlet 39 to cylinder ports 23 and transverse slots 66 to connect the cylinder ports 23 via a passageway 69 to an exhaust 38 at lower pressure. In operation, three adjacent cylinders are connected to air at high pressure and three to air at low pressure. The pneumatic hoist includes a drum 19 which has an outer surface with a helical groove 41 on which a cable 57 is wound to raise or lower a hook assembly 59. A manually operated control (not shown) may incorporate "raise", "hold" and "lower" buttons. "Raise" would supply air to inlet 39, "hold" would shut off this air supply and block exhaust 38 and "lower" would open the inlet 39 so that the load would drive the device as a compressor. For safety, an automatic hold is included in case of failure of the air supply. The control may enable air at any of three pressures to be supplied to inlet 39.
