Abstract

1353744 Weft bobbin feelers for looms NORTHROP WEAVING MACHINERY Ltd 19 April 1971 [28 Feb 1970] 9779/70 Heading DIE [Also in Division G1] A photo-electric weft bobbin feeler has a light source 14 and a lens system 18 which directs light onto the surface of a pin 30, reflected light being focussed by a lens system 34 onto a phototransistor P, and the lenssystems 18 and 34 being inclined to each other. The signals from the phototransistor P are amplified and arranged to trigger a monostable multivibrator, (B), Fig. 3, (not shown), the pulses of which are fed to a detector circuit (C) which produces a signal to initiate weft replenishment or to stop the loom when the weft is exhausted. In one embodiment, a light weft is used, and the pin is dark, and each time the shuttle arrives in front of the feeler a pulse is produced in the phototransistor P which triggers the multivibrator. The detector C is then arranged to produce an output in the absence of a pulse from the multivabrator. The feeler 10 is mounted on a fixed part of the loom, such as the breast beam so that the pin is scanned by the light beam when the sley is at front dead centre.
