Abstract

1353296 Free-flowing phosphoric acid esters KNAPSACK AG 7 March 1972 [24 March 1971] 10554/72 Heading C2P A phosphoric acid ester or phosphoric acid ester mixture having a solidification point higher than 44‹ C. is transformed into a freeflowing product stable to storage by cooling the ester or mixture from temperatures above its solidification point down to temperatures below its solidification point, simultaneously or subsequently transforming the ester or mixture into granular, powdered or scaly material, and immediately thereafter allowing this material in a layer less than 50 cm. thick to remain for at least 20 minutes at temperatures at least 20‹ C. lower than its fusion point. The treatment of the granular, powdered or scaly material at temperatures at least 20‹ C. below its fusion point may be carried out on a tape, plate or tray or in a fluidized bed or rotary tube. In the examples phosphates treated are (1) a mixture of mono- and di-stearyl phosphates, (2) substantially monostearyl phosphate and (3) an ester mixture containing cetyl, stearyl and eicosanyl radicals. The esters used in Examples 1 to 3 are prepared by reacting phosphorus pentoxide with the corresponding alcohol or alcohols.
