Abstract

1353273 Overload devices on ploughs O BRENIG [trading as KARL & JOSEPH BRENIG] 3 May 1972 20663/72 Heading A1B A plough has an overload safety device which permits a plough bottom to deflect in any of several directions on encountering an obstacle and which comprises a casing rigidly fixed to the plough's frame, a polygonal plate rigidly attached to a beam carrying the plough bottom and guided inside the casing and a biasing means that urges the plate against stops inside the casing. In a preferred embodiment, a reversible plough has two overload devices 2, each respectively connected to a beam 5 carrying double plough bottoms 6 and to a frame (4) Fig. 2 (not shown) which rotates about a horizontal selector axle 3. Each device 2 comprises a rectangular housing 7 containing a yieldable biasing means 8 which acts against a plate 9 connected to the forward end of the associated beam 5. The biasing means can be a hydraulic, pneumatic or hydropneumatic cylinder or alternatively, a helical spring of flat section steel, a pack of plate springs, a spring of resilient rubber to be material, e.g. cellular polyurethane or a hollow rubber spring. The biasing means 8 normally urges the bottoms 6 into the selected working position but yields to allow the tool to move in both horizontal and vertical directions on encountering an obstacle. The biasing force of the device 8 may be adjusted by means of stops 10 onto which the plate 9 is urged.
