Abstract

1352569 Holographic sound recording and playback AGFA-GEVAERT A G 13 May 1971 [13 May 1970] 14810/71 Heading G2J [Also in Divisions G4-6] Sound is recorded on a moving photo-sensitive medium in the form of a modulated intensity pattern which acts as a diffraction grating. As shown, Fig. 1, the intensity pattern 1a is produced as a hologram by means of the interference of two partial beams of a sound-modulated light beam issuing from a coherent light source 3. Alternatively, Fig. 2, a diffraction grating 12 is imaged on the record medium 9 by the sound-modulated light beam. A pulse frequency may be superimposed on the sound signals, the light source possibly being a pulsed laser. In playback, Fig. 4, (not shown), a sound signal is derived from the intensity of light diffracted through a given angle by the record. Several sound tracks having different grating constants may be mutually superimposed, Figs. 5 and 6, (not shown).
