1462792 Optical playback of video disc records MCA DISCO-VISION Inc 15 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 39127/76 Divided out of 1462791 Heading G5R A laser 52 emits a playback beam 54 which passes through a polarizing device 56, as shown a plane-polarizing beam-splitter, and a polarization-shifting plate 62, e.g. a quarter-wave plate, and is reflected from a video disc record 18 back through the plate 62 which by its double rotation action on the beam 54 prevents passage of the beam back through the polarizing device 56 to the laser 52.
