Abstract

1352240 Endless chain conveyers RCA CORPORATION 29 Dec 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 60602/71 Heading B8A [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] After manufacture a cathode-ray display tube is moved to a testing station on a conveyer, and whilst on the conveyer is subjected to "spotknock" "hot-shot" and "ageing" processes, and finally to an additional stabilizing process wherein the cathode and all except the final electrodes are at or near earth whilst the final electrode is at about 35 KV; during this latter process electrons impinge on the screen, and to prevent damage they are scanned across the screen by means of a continuous non-uniform magnetic field produced by coils 100, Fig. 1, arranged along the path of the tube. The coils may be arranged in groups of four, as illustrated, with adjacent coils oppositely energized preferably with A.C. though D.C. may be used. The coils may be on both sides of the path of the tube, and preferably the groups on opposite sides are staggered. The tube 32 is suspended by a yoke 21 from a trolley 10 which is driven along an I- beam 16 by means of a flexible chain 18. A terminal block 44 is connected by a cable 84 to the tube electrodes and is provided with spring- loaded contacts (not shown in Fig. 1) adapted to co-operate with bus-bars (not shown) along selected portions of the track. Below an insulator 28 is a further contact member 88 which similarly conveys UHT to the tube via yoke 21 lead 91 and terminal 92.
