Abstract

1352120 Steering wheels CLIFFORD COVERING CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [8 Dec 1969] 59724/69 Heading B7J An impact load absorbing steering wheel comprises a rim 11 connected to a hub 10 by a plurality of zig-zag spokes 12 each having straight portions 13 and 14 parallel to the median plane of the rim and an intermediate straight portion 15 inclined to the expected direction of impact, shown by the arrow A, on the wheel when mounted in a vehicle, the whole being covered by a readily deformable material 16 deformation of which requires a force which is insignificant compared to the force required to deform the spokes on impact.
