Abstract

1351975 Buckles ETUDES ET FABRICATIONS AERONAUTIQUES 23 Nov 1971 [3 Dec 1970] 54308/71 Heading E2A A rapid release buckle for connecting the straps of a safety harness comprises a body, a first member supporting one or more first latching devices, a second member supporting one or more second latching devices, a first actuating device for withdrawing the first and second latching devices and a second actuating device, independent of the first for displacing the second member to selectively withdraw the second latching device or devices, the second actuating device comprising a rotatable cam for displacing at least one push rod which extends or extend through the body and through the first support member, the push rod or rods displacing the second support member. The body of the buckle comprises elements 2 and 3 and has a cover 4 connected together by screws 20 and providing apertures for the entry of strap tongues which are retained by latching members 10, 10a and 10b slidable in holes in a disc 8 and urged into latching positions by springs 11. The two latching members 10b project from a separate plate member 25. All the latching members 10, 10b are withdrawn by rotating a member 21 connected to a spindle 17 which has a laterally projecting pin 18 which moves along cam faces 16 on a hub 15 on the disc to depress the disc and plate member 25 against the action of the springs 11 to withdraw the latches. The two latching members 10b are selectively withdrawn by turning a lever 39 rotatable on a screw attached to the spindle 17. The lever drives a lug 36, projecting from a cam 32 rotatable on the spindle through a slot 37 in a cover 34 so that ramps 33 on the cam depress three push rods 30 projecting from the member 25 bearing the latching members 10b, through holes in the disc 8 and elements 2 and 3 to depress the member 25 to withdraw the latching members 10b. One latching member 10a is longer than the others and permanently latches one tongue. A remote control flexible cable for the cam may be anchored in a recess 41 of the cam.
