Abstract

1351752 Laboratory filter apparatus W & R BALSTON Ltd 15 June 1971 [16 June 1970] 29181/70 Headings B1D and BIT A unitary disposable laboratory filter apparatus 10 comprises a filter element 13, e.g. of glass fibre, a moulded plastics tubular holder 14, a moulded plastics support member in the form of a perforated disc 11 (Figs. 1 and 3a), 41 (Fig. 2) which extends across the inside of the holder to support the filter element, and sealing means which interlocks with the support member. to maintain pressure on the outer periphery of the filter element to lock it in place adjacent the support member. In Fig. 1, the sealing means is a plastics ring 18 which locks in a groove 17 in the holder. In Fig. 2, the sealing means is formed by annular shoulders 40 and 43 between which the filter element 13 and support member 41 are snap fitted. In Fig. 3a, the sealing means is a hollow tube 30 which locks by head 31 and annular recess 32 into the tubular holder. The use of the filter apparatus for filtering both liquids and air is described. The plastics material of which the holder and support member are formed is, suitably, polypropylene.
