Abstract

1351636 Conductive coating composition GLOBE-UNION Inc 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 23632/71 Headings C3B and C3R [Also in Divisions B2 and H1] An electrically resistive coating composition comprises a mixture containing by wt. 30-96% of a solution or dispersion of a heat curable mixture of phenolic resin with a trifunctional epoxy resin or epoxy modified phenolic resin in a liquid vehicle, and 4-70% of conductive particles dispersed in the vehicle. The conductive particles may be 10-400 millimicron crystalline or amorphous carbon particles, e.g. acetylene black or furnace black, which may have been calcined in air, or 10-400 Ám metal particles, e.g. Ag, Pt, other noble metals, Cu, or stainless steel. The solvent may be alcohol, ketone, glycol ether or aromatic hydrocarbon. Also present may be: melamine resin or precursors, or epoxy resins, solid lubricant, e.g. MoS 2 , WS 2 , BN, Nb selenide, W selenide, or Ti telluride. Resistors may be formed by using the composition to coat dielectric insulating substrates, e.g. sheets, strips, or films of phenolic resin, PVC, polyethylene, epoxy resin, glass, ceramic, or treated papers. The coating thickness may be 0À25-10 mils. The resistor may carry a series of adjacent coatings of different conductivities, for example as in Specification 1,343,028.
