1351420 Supporting magnetic heads INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 14 Nov 1972 52478/72 Heading G5R A mechanism, which may be of the type described in Specification 1,342,495, for positioning a flying head over a multi-track rotary record includes in its circuit a capacitor which is maintained charged by the continuous supply of power to the head positioning mechanism and record drive motor but which discharges if the power supply is interrupted, causing the positioning mechanism to withdraw the head from the area of the record tracks. The head is withdrawn also if the speed of the record falls below a predetermined limit for any reason other than loss of power.
