Abstract
1368441 Recording and playback; data storage WALTER BUHMANN ELEKTROAPPARATEBAU GmbH 14 July 1971 [14 July 1970] 32950/71 Headings G4C and G5R In an intermittent drive system employing a tape bearing a series of elongate marks in a control track, data is selectively stored in track areas either alongside the marks or alongside spaces between marks. In the arrangement shown, the marks are perforations 28 and data is stored either in constant tape speed regions B, Fig. 4, adjacent the perforations and between starting regions A and stopping regions C, or in constant speed regions B<SP>1</SP> adjacent spaces 36 and between starting/stopping regions A<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>1</SP>. The perforations are sensed by an optical system 29, and the heads 25 are enabled/disabled during the required periods by gating circuitry (Fig. 5, not shown), an inverting unit (54) effectively inverting the output of system 29 to make the perforations 28 appear to lie in the spaces 36 whenever recording in areas B<SP>1</SP> is required.
