Abstract
1351419 Sighting device ERNST LEITZ GmbH 19 Oct 1972 [25 Nov 1971] 48185/72 Heading F3C A sighting device for an artillery weapon, comprises a shaft 201 to be aligned parallel to an axis of elevation of the weapon, a universal joint 205 having a part 206 carried by the shaft 201, the universal joint being received in a housing 200 having a body and a head 215 which is rotatable thereon and is connected to the universal joint, the housing 200 being provided with levelling means 204 which allows the axis of rotation to be set vertically, a part 207 of the universal joint being mounted on the part 206 carried by the shaft 201 so as to be rotatable releatively thereto about an axis 2071 which is perpendicular to the axis 2011 of the shaft 201 and being mounted on a mounting position 214 of the head 215 to be rotatable about the axis 2072 of the part 207, an angle measuring device comprising a component 217 carried by the part 207 to be situated within the universal joint 205 and to extend transversely of the axis 2072 of the part 207, and a component 218 which is rotatable relatively to the component 217 and which is rigidly connected to the mounting position 214, the components 217, 218 each being provided with indicating means having an origin on the longitudinal axis 2072, of the part 207, the components 217, 218 together defining a plane in which to measure, in a co-ordinate system defined by the sighting device, the angle of elevation of locating means 216 on the head 215 to locate a telescope 300, and a further angle measuring device to measure the azimuth of the telescope in the same co-ordinate system. The shaft 201 is supported by a gun sight holder 100, the latter being mounted in a bearing 104, having arms 101 and a support 102 by which it is secured to a gun mount (not shown), being provided with a scale 202 having a vernier 103, and having a manually operable driving device 105, 106. The bearing 104 has a part-spherical base carried by the housing 200 and a complementary member carried by the gun sight holder 100. The mounting position 214 has a lug which is integral with the remainder of the head 215, the latter carrying the locating means 216. The origins are situated at the point of intersection of the axis of the part 207 and the perpendicular axis 2071. The universal joint 205 has a part 208 which is connected between the part 206 and the housing 200, the part 208 being rotatably mounted relatively to the part 206 and being provided with bores 210, 211 which receive bolts 212, 213 of the housing 200 to permit the latter to rotate about the common axis 2071 of the bores 210, 211, the latter coinciding with the perpendicular axis 2001. The housing 200 is rotated by a manually operable drive 203, 219 and the part 208 is rotated by the manually operable driving device 105, 106 on the gun sight holder 100. The angle measuring devices each comprise electrical generators providing signals indicative of the angles measured by the measuring devices, and digital indicating means to provide a visual indication of the angles. The angle measuring devices also have visible graduations and optical image conducting means to conduct an image of the graduations to a respective reading location which is situated on an indicating panel.
