Abstract

1351049 Measuring shaft RPM LUMENITION Ltd 2 Oct 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 46479/71 Heading G4H [Also in Division G1] The speed of rotation of a shaft is indicated by generating electric pulses by the rotation and applying them to a ring counter via a gate which is repeatedly opened for a predetermined time, which is a multiple, for example 30, of the pulse period at a desired speed, the counter position at the termination of the period being indicative of the pulse frequency and thus of the R.P.M. The counter positions may be connected to an arc or line of gallium phosphide lamps for a standing indication. The pulses may be generated by, for example, a maltese cross type disc having a 2 : 1 mark to space ratio rotating between a gallium arsenide lamp and a photocell which may be a Darlington pair. A multistage fast trigger switch is described.
