Abstract

1350612 Alkyl esters of acrylic acids ROHM & HAAS CO 15 July 1971 [15 July 1970] 33326/71 Heading C2C Alkyl esters of acrylic and/or alpha alkyl substituted acrylic acid esters are prepared by depolymerizing the corresponding polymers by contacting with a constantly renewed surface of a hot molten metal in an inert atmosphere. The molten metal may be lead, tin or cadmium at 400‹ C., and the surface is mechanically agitated. The monomer vapours are condensed in a concurrent or countercurrent condenser with partial recycling. Examples describe the treatment of polymethyl methacrylate.
