Abstract

1350567 Antiskid braking systems; valves FIAT SpA 9 Oct 1972 [12 Oct 1971] 46425/72 Headings F2F and F2V In a vehicle antiskid braking system having two modes of response depending on whether the vehicle is on a high or low adhesion surface, a valve 24 receives pneumatic pressure exhausted from a brake 14 when a solenoid valve 16 is operated to exhaust pressure therefrom upon detection of an incipient skid by detector 20. At low pressures when the vehicle is on a low adhesion surface pressure is exhausted from brake 14 and passes to atmosphere via a port 26, grooves 34 in a shutter 36, the inwardly deflected resilient walls of shutter 36 and either a port 50 or throttle orifice 48 of a plug 46. At higher pressures above a threshold pressure, when the vehicle is braked on a high adhesion surface, a spring 42 is compressed causing shutter 36 to seat on plug 36, thereby closing port 50. The pressure in brake 14 is then progressively released as pressure firstly builds up in an accumulator chamber 30 and is then exhausted through orifice 48 past the resiliently deflected shutter walls.
