Abstract

1350460 Portable prefabricated room units J G G BERCE and E CIRIANI 19 April 1971 [2 March 1970] 22869/71 Heading E1A A portable room unit comprises a rigid rectangular parallelepipedic framework 1 and a number of interchangeable prefabricated elements 2, 3..9, each element comprising a hull having an open side with a rectangular periphery of the same height as and a fraction of the length of the framework and attachable thereto, to provide an extension of the room space, and containing fittings, e.g. beds 11a, 11b, 14, cupboards 12, kitchen equipment 13, sanitation, doors 15, windows 16, &c the depth of the hulls being such that they may be displaced into the interior of the framework and be completely contained therein to facilitate transportation, (Fig. 2, not shown). The hulls may be moulded from polyester reinforced with glass fibre and polyurethane foam, and each has a flange around the periphery to abut against the inside or outside of the frame members 18a..d for fixing thereto. End panels or hulls, a floor and ceiling, and ground supports 10 are subsequently attached. Corner pieces 31 facilitate the connecting of several room units in one or more storeys, preferably in a staggered arrangement.
