Abstract

1350453 Dimers of unsaturated fatty acids and their esters KAO SOAP CO Ltd 21 May 1971 [4 June 1970] 16311/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises an improved process for the production of a polymer product mainly composed of dimer having a cyolohexene structure by the thermal polymerization of an unsaturated fatty acid containing conjugated unsaturated bonds or its ester, wherein the improvement comprises carrying out the process in the presence of an aryl sulphohalide as catalyst. Specified conjugated unsaturated fatty acids are those derived from safflower oil, linseed oil, soy-bean oil, sunflower oil, tall oil and rape seed oil. Examples are given in which a methyl ester of safflower fatty acid and a soybean oil fatty acid are polymerized.
