Abstract

1350421 Electro-photographic element MINOLTA CAMERA K K 15 June 1971 [15 June 1970] 28042/71 Heading G2C An electro-photographic element comprises a conductive base, two photo-conductive layers of different sensitivities, one layer comprising a uniform layer and the other layer being coated on the uniform layer as a pattern of discrete areas, and a transparent organic layer overlying the two layers. The first photo-conductive layer forms a rectifying junction with the base. In an embodiment, a polyester film having an aluminium film thereon is oxidized to give a layer of Al 2 O 3 and then vacuum coated with amorphous selenium. A mesh screen of stainless steel is attached to the surface of the selenium and an alloy of Se-Te evaporated therethrough. The screen is removed and a solution of polyvinylcarbazole, diphenyl trichloride and monochlorobenzene is applied to the surface. In other embodiments the base-plate is glass coated with Al or an aluminium plate coated with Al 2 O 3 . The first photo-conductive layer may be As 2 S 3 , or alloys of S with As or Sb whilst the other photoconductive layer may be alloys of Se with As or Sb.The organic layer may be a polyimide resin, polyvinyl-naphthalene or polyvinyl-malachite green. A semi-conductive rectifying layer may be interposed between the base and the uniform photo-conductive layer.
