Abstract
1350341 Supporting converter bodies NIPPON STEEL CORP 19 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 23690/72 Heading F4B A converter body 1 is supported in a trunnion ring 2 by upper supporting devices comprising part spherical bearing members mounted on bases sliding in a radial direction on the trunnion ring, and received in cups mounted on brackets 4 secured to the converter and lower supporting devices comprising semicylindrical bearing members 32 mounted on brackets 6 secured to the converter and received in troughs 33 mounted on the trunnion ring 2. The upper bearing members 22, Fig. 3 are mounted on plates 21 sliding radially between stops 13, 14 on the trunnion ring. Radial thermal expansion is taken up by the plates 21 sliding outwardly, and in the lower devices by relative movement between the members 32, arranged with their axes directed radially of the converter, and the troughs 33 sliding over them. Because of the curved bearing surfaces, the bearing point of the converter's weight moves progressively as the converter is tilted, expansion or wear produces play between the parts of the supports. The cups of the upper securing devices may be slidably mounted of the trunnion ring, and the bearing members secured to the converter body, and hemispherical bearing members and cups may be used for the lower supporting devices.
