Abstract
1,218,442. Mounting converters. DEMAG A.G. 9 Jan., 1968 [1 July, 1967], No. 1294/68. Heading F4B. A converter vessel 1, when tilted to a horizontal position is supported within a mounting ring 4 by means of extensible bolts 21 which connect projections 14 of claw rings 2, 3 and 5, 6 secured to the vessel casing, to peripherally spaced support structures formed by walls 18, and attached to the mounting ring 4. The bolts 21 which pass through oversized holes in both the projections 14 and the walls 18 are provided with washers 23, 24 having engaging partspherical seating surfaces which allow the bolts to pivot slightly in the holes, and so by pivoting and/or stretching compensate for any differential thermal expansion of the vessel 1 and the ring 4. When in the upright or inverted position the vessel 1 is supported by brackets 8 on claw ring 3 or claw ring 5 abutting through interposed shims 9 bearing surfaces 10 on the mounting ring 4. Lugs (12, Fig. 1, not shown) secured to the mounting ring 4, and associated shims are provided on either side of brackets 8 to prevent excessive relative rotational movement between the vessel 1 and mounting ring 4. The claw rings may also be connected to the mounting ring by extensible bolts extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vessel (Fig. 5, not shown) as disclosed in Specification 1,218,441.
