Abstract
1350297 Water miscible stock solutions of chromium complex dyes BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 23 June 1971 [24 June 1970] 29367/71 Heading D1B Water miscible stock solutions of Cr-complex dyes which in the metal free form have the general formula: wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H or nitro and R<SP>2</SP> is an α- naphthol-2- or #-naphthol-1-radical and wherein the stock solutions contain 14-40% by weight (based on the stock solution) of the chromium containing dye as defined above, 86-60% by weight (based on the stock solution) of a solvent mixture consisting of 55- 90% by weight (based on the solvent mixture) of water and 45-10% by weight (based on the solvent mixture) of an organic solvent of the general formula: wherein R<SP>3</SP> is H, C 1 -C 8 alkyl, propionyl or acetyl, R<SP>4</SP> is H or methyl and n is 0 or an integer from 1-6 and from 0-12% by weight (based on the solvent mixture) of a formamide of the general formula HCON(R<SP>5</SP>) 2 wherein R<SP>5</SP> is H or methyl are prepared by treating the unmetallised dyestuff. or the components which couple in situ to form the dye, in the solvent mixture with a chromium III salt or a precursor therefor at elevated temperature to form the chromium complex dye. The process preferably takes place at 60-135‹C at pH 2-6 using an amount of chromium salt containing 50-105 atoms of chromium per 100 molecules dye; the pH of the solutions may be subsequently raised. In further preferred embodiments (a) the unmetallised dye may be prepared in water prior to the addition of the organic solvents and subsequent chroming, (b) the coupling components may be predissolved in a solvent or added as a solid, (c) the unmetallised dye may be used in wet-cake form and (d) the chromium III salt may be prepared in situ. The dyes are used to dye wool, silk, leather, polyhexamethylene adipamide and polycaprolactam.
