Abstract

1350109 Electro-photographic processes and elements FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 14 Dec 1971 [14 Dec 1970] 58131/71 Headings G2C and G2H An electro-photographic process utilizes a photo-conductive layer 1 on a conductive backing 2 spaced from a transparent photo-conductive layer 4 on a transparent backing 5, 6. The photo-conductive layers 1, 4 are oppositely charged and then selectively discharged by image wise exposure through the transparent backing 5, 6 to form electrostatic latent images 23, 27. Developer is then fed between the layers to form a visible image on layer 4, the latent image on layer 1 serving to enhance development. For normal development the image on layer 1, layer 4 is preferably more sensitive than layer 1, and for reversal development of the image on layer 1, layer 1 is preferably the more sensitive. Preferred materials are named. The photoconductive layer 1 comprises ZnO in alkyol resin on a support 2 of Al or paper. The photoconductive layer 4 comprises polyvinylcarbazole with chloranil and tetracyanoquinodimethane or 4-nitro polyatyrene on a support 5, 6 of tinoxide coated glass or polyethylene terephthalate coated with potassium benzene sulphonate. Other suitable photo-conductors are TiO 2 or CdO while silicone resin, polyatyrene or a polyacrylic ester may be used as a binder. Al-coated paper or cellulose triacetate may be used as supports.
