Abstract

1350018 Variable phase-shifters TEKTRONIX Inc 4 Feb 1972 [8 March 1971] 5289/72 Heading H1W A variable phase-shifter, or line-stretcher, comprises a hollow member 10 containing one or more movable U-shaped inner conductors 58 which telescopically engage fixed, hollow, inner conductors 40, 48. Where, as shown, there are four such fixed inner conductors, two associated with different movable U-shaped members are joined by a connecting section 24, and the ends of the remaining two are coupled to input and output coaxial sockets 44, 46. The curved portions 61 of the U-shaped members are of reduced, rectangular cross-section (Fig. 5, not shown) and are supported by insulating sliding members 62, 66 driven by a lead screw 72. The ends of the fixed conductors are provided with spring fingers 54 which engage the sliding conductors. The fixed conductors are supported by dielectric spacers 42 in rectangular channels 20, 22 formed in the member 10, whilst the movable conductors are spaced from the upper and lower parallel inner surfaces 30 of the hollow member 10 which is of reduced height in the vicinity of these conductors. A recess 80 at the junction of the fixed and movable conductors provides impedance matching.
