Abstract
1349855 Brake boosters GIRLING Ltd 16 July 1971 [24 July 1970] 35953/70 Heading F2F In a modification of the vacuum suspended brake booster described and claimed in Specification 1,144,567, a deflecting plate 18 comprises twelve rigid radial fingers 20 which are radially outwardly divergent in shape and each finger 20 has a raised portion 24 which acts as a pivot point or edge in conjunction with a flat outer peripheral portion 28 of a dished fulcrum plate 26. As shown, each finger 20, in fact, comprises two V-section raised portions but each finger 20 could alternatively comprise one central V-section portion or a point contact pivot could be used. The portions 24 may be formed integrally with the fingers 20 by stamping or they may be attached separately. The fingers 20 are held in pockets formed between sheets 22 of plastic material placed one upon the other. The described arrangement is said to reduce hysteresis effects in operation of the booster.
