Abstract
1349801 Dock levellers BLUE GIANT EQUIPMENT OF CANADA Ltd 11 March 1971 6614/71 Heading B8E In a dock-leveller 16, Fig. 1, raised by an hydraulic ram 78, 80, a lip 18 is automatically raised as the ram extends. A cable 118, which extends between a cross-member 66 and links 110, 106, 102, Fig. 10, raises the lip, and a pivoted spring-loaded rod 132 holds the lip in the raised position when the cable 118 becomes slack as the platform is lowered. The rod 132 pivots downwards out of engagement with the lip-raising levers when the lip is resting on a support. Thus, when the platform is subsequently raised, the lip hangs vertically again. A manually operated lever 144, Fig. 8, is provided for raising the lip to clear a frame member 44 as the platform is lowered so that the latter may be lowered below the horizontal position. Stops 160 provide alternative positive support positions for the lip and platform. The hydraulic circuit includes a pressure relief valve to prevent over-pressurization, a check-valve to permit extension of the ram when the platform is raised by a vehicle, and means for preventing sudden descent of the platform if the vehicle supporting it is inadvertently moved.
