Abstract

1349723 Cyclic fluoroethsrs MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 24430/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Compounds of formula wherein a and b are 0 to 20 and a + b is 2 to 30 are prepared by thermal decomposition, in the absence of oxygen and of compounds capable of undergoing addition or transfer reaction with the free radicals formed, of a linear polyether of formula wherein the recurring units are randomly distributed along the polymeric chain, p and q are 1 to 150, p+q is 2 to 200, O is a peroxidic oxygen atom, s is 0 or 1 to 50 such that the ratio s : (p+q) is 0 to 0À5, p : q is 0À2 to 5 and the terminal groups A and B are -CF 3 , -C 2 F 5 , -CF 2 H, -COF, -CF 2 COF, -CF 2 COOH, -CF 2 CONH 2 , -CF 2 CONHR or CF 2 COOR groups in which R is a C 1-8 alkyl group. Exemplified products are perfluorodioxetane, perfluoro - 1,3 - dioxolane, perfluoro - 1,4 - dioxane, perfluorotrioxane, perfluorotrioxepane and perfluorotetroxocane. The products may be used as heat-exchange fluids, refrigerants, aerosol propellants, fire-extinguishing agents, solvents, lubricating oils and bases for greases.
