Abstract

1370023 Mould lubricants IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 March 1972 [29 March 1971] 8067/71 Heading B5A A mould lubricant suitable for use in injection moulding of polyethylene or polypropylene comprises a branched fluorocarbon containing compound which is obtained from an oligomer of tetrafluoroethylene or hexafluoropropene and having a terminal branched fluorocarbon portion of at least five carbon atoms containing at least three trifluoromethyl groups; the lubricant is applied by spraying as a solution in a volatile solvent (concentration 0À05-0À5% W/W). The fluorocarbon compound preferably contains a hydrophilic group, e.g. polyoxyethylene to ensure that the compound adequately wets the mould surface. The lubricant may be used as a mixture with a conventional mould lubricant. It is stated that preparation of suitable compounds is described in Specifications 1,206,596, 1,182,645, 1,178,951, 1,176,493, 1,176,492, 1,155,607, 1,151,601, 1,148,486, 1,143,927 1,143,599, 1,130,822 and 1082,127.
