1349695 Shaft couplings P O JOHANSEN 3 July 1972 [8 July 1971] 30972/72 Heading F2U One end 4 of a shaft (e.g. of an oil pump (3) Fig. 1, not shown) is connected to the end 9 of another shaft (e.g. of an impeller (8)) which has a bore 10 in which the shaft end 4 is slid, there being a series of balls (15-17) Fig. 3 (not shown) around the bore, each ball contacting the outer surface of the shaft end 4 and the inner surface of a ring 20 (e.g. a split ring) mounted on the shaft end 9 (e.g. in a groove 19) the two shaft ends being prevented from relative rotation (e.g. by one ball being larger than the others and engaging a flat 18 on the shaft end 4).
