Abstract

1349561 Mould release film BRITISH CELLOPHANE Ltd 31 Jan 1972 [15 Feb 1971] 4663/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] A method for the manufacture of a moulded article having a delustred or matt surface finish comprises curing an epoxy or polyester resin in contact with a mould release agent consisting of a regenerated cellulose film having particles of an oleaginous material distributed throughout the body of the film in an amount between 1 and 80% by weight based upon the weight of the cellulose in the film. The size of the particles may be in the range between 0À5 and 200 microns. The material may be a mineral oil such as a petroleum or tar distillate, e.g. liquid paraffin, a natural oil such as olive, corn, palm or castor oil, a silicone oil or a polymeric lubricant. The film may be formed by adding the oleaginous material to viscose either directly or by first dispersing the material in water with the aid of a dispersing agent, e.g. sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, or, triethanolamine. The film may be plasticized with polyethylene glycol or glycerol. The resin may be reinforced with glass fibre. The film may be removed from the article after moulding or may be left as a temporary protective layer. The article may be a pipe or a flat, curved or corrugated sheet. Sheet may be continuously moulded by feeding resin between a pair of films moving between shape-determining members.
