Abstract

1349536 Welding by fusion KAWASAKI JUKOGYO KK 17 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 15347/71 Heading B3R [Also in Division C7] In a process for welding high tensile steel a consumable electrode of metastable austenitic steel is used and the welded component subjected to sub-zero cooling and a subsequent ageing treatment. In an example the compositions (in % wt.) of the workpieces and electrode wire were :- Welding was carried out using a shielding gas mixture of argon and carbon dioxide. Cooling was effected by applying to the weld area a mixture 4 of methyl alcohol and dry ice, temperature levels of -20‹ C., -50‹ C. and -70‹ C. being referred to. Ageing was effected by cooling in air from a temperature of 400‹ C. to 450‹ C.
