Abstract

1349192 Infuser device CIBA-GEIGY AG 24 May 1971 [25 May 1970] 16670/71 Heading B2F [Also in Division A2] An infuser device for infusing gaseous substances and aerosols into articles, such as cigarettes comprises two telescoping cylinders 10, 20, provided with pistons 17, 21, the narrower cylinder 10 being hollow to receive an article such as a cigarette C and the wider 20 containing a dispenser 29 and communicating with the interior 10a of cylinder 10 through passages 25 so that as the cylinders 10, 20 are telescoped together a chamber 24 expands and a vacuum is formed in the hollow interior 10a. The dispenser 29 is pushed down by cylinder 10 until it abuts a flange 20a. Further telescoping of cylinder 10 into cylinder 20 actuates the valve of dispenser 29 while at the same time slide valves 27 close the passages 25. The dispenser 29 comprises a valve stem 35 having passages 64 closed by gasket 49 communicating with a collapsible annular container 55 for the substance to be dispensed and passages 40 closed by gasket 34 communicating with a container 52 of propellant. Depression of valve stem 35 opens passages 40, 64 so that propellant passing through the spray head 60 entrains the substance to be dispensed through aperture 62. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the passage 26a communicating chamber 24 with the hollow interior 10a is remote from piston 21 so that the interior 10a is subjected to a vacuum at the same time as the gaseous substance is dispensed. Vents 70 with pressure relief valves allow the cylinders 10, 20 to be drawn apart. (For Figures see next column)
