Abstract

1349168 Metallized disazo dyes PARBWERKE HOECHST AG 2 July 1971 [3 July 1970] 31110/71 Heading C4P New water-soluble metalliferous disazo dyestuffs which may contain 1 or 2 metal atoms and which, in their metal-free form, are of formula in which A 1 and A 2 are the same or different and each represents a phenyl or naphthyl radical which may be unsubstituted or substituted by one or more further substituents, R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, one of the symbols W represents a hydroxyl, methoxyl or carboxyl group in an ortho position to the azo bridge, the other symbol W, which is in an ortho position to the azo group, represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl, methoxyl or carboxyl group, X represents a grouping of the Formula (II) or (III) wherein Z represents a radical which can be split off by alkaline agents, or a hydroxyl group, and p represents the integer 1, 2 or 3, m represents 0 or an integer from 1 to 4, m 1 represents 0 or 1, the sum of m and m 1 being at least 1, and n 1 , which may be the same or different, each represents 0, 1 or 2, the sum of n and n 1 being at least 1, are prepared by successive coupling of appropriate diazo compounds with a 1,3-diamino-benzene with metallization at either the mono- or dis-azo dye stage. Where Z is OH the dyes may be sulphated or phosphorylated. The dyes are used to colour natural and synthetic polyamide, polyurethane and, in particular, cellulose fibres by the usual reactive dyeing processes in brown shades. In Examples cobalt, chromium, copper and nickel dyestuff complexes are prepared containing as Z the sulphuric aicd ester, chloro, phenoxy, p-toluenesulphonyloxy, thiosulphato or phosphoric acid ester group.
