Abstract

1348503 Snow melting installations; expansion joints PFISTER RIMLE & CO 19 April 1971 [12 Feb 1970 16 March 1970] 21712/71 Headings E1B and E1G [Also in Division F4] A snow and ice melting installation, particularly for car parks, bridges, road sections and pavements, comprises a system of radiator tubes 8 made of resilient plastics material embedded in a surface layer, of concrete or tar, in which zones are defined by grooves 10 extending at least partially through the layer. The tubes are located within tubular reinforcing elements 11 adjacent each said groove 10. As shown in Fig. 1, a cork insulating layer 3 is laid on a reinforced concrete roof 1, a layer of corrugated cardboard 4 being interposed between 1 and 3. The upper side of the cork layer 3 is covered with a damp course 5. A heating tube 8 of polyethylene on a wire grid 7 is embedded in the tar or concrete 6 forming the roof car park. The difference between the expansion coefficient of concrete and that of polyethylene is counteracted by the high elasticity of the plastics tube 8.
