1348106 Flanging metal sheets C G GREGOIRE 11 July 1972 [15 July 1971] 32287/72 Heading B3E Apparatus for bending offset printing plates comprises a table and means for causing a roller to engage a bending edge of the table so that an edge of a plate on the table is flanged by rolling action of the roller over the table edge. As described, two tables 32a (one shown) are movable vertically by a pneumatic cylinder 70 and piston-rod 73. Each table comprises a base 35 to which are fixed a central portion having suction attachment devices 105, 106, and a fixed edge 36. A movable edge 38 is slidable horizontally on the base 35. Each edge cooperates with a roller 58, 59 mounted on a lever 45, 46 pivoted at 47, 48, and biased by a compression spring 53, 54. In operation, plates are placed on the tables, with registration holes in the plates located on pins 41, 42. The suction devices are made operative, and piston-rod 73 extended. The first part of this movement moves edge 38 outwardly by toggle linkage 82, 85, and further movement raises the table, so that the rollers 58, 59 ride over the edge contours 39, 40, and bend the plate edges to them. The contours may have reverse bends and the rollers may have notches to produce reverse bends in the plate flanges. After its full stroke, the piston-rod is automatically retracted, lowering the table and finally moving edge 38 to the left, releasing the flanged plate for removal sideways.
