Abstract
1347421 Exhaust gas cleaner K AOI 4 Feb 1972 [10 Feb 1971 15 Feb 1971 23 Feb 1971 15 March 1971] 5384/72 Heading BIT [Also in Division Fl] Exhaust gases from an I.C. engine which are cooled by expansion through at least one multi-apertured plate 51 in a cylindrical cleaning chamber 1 are further cooled by the flow of a coolant through a pipe 15 passing through the chamber or a jacket (9,9'), Figs. 1 to 3 (not shown), or a tube (17), Fig. 5 (not shown), surrounding the chamber. Moisture condenses in chambers [5] downstream of the plates 51 and is collected in chambers separated from the condensation chambers by multi-apertured walls 52, 53 and containing a heat-resistant filter material 54. The moisture is collected in a reservoir 6 with a drain cock 7. The coolant may be engine cooling water circulated by a pump 16 or air forced into the pipe (15), Fig. 6 (not shown), or the tube (17), Fig. 5, by a motor-driven fan (18) or by forward movement of a vehicle on which the apparatus is mounted. Pipes (13), Fig. 3, may extend through the chamber 1 from opposed parts of the coolant jacket (9'). The interior of the chamber 1 may be as described in Specifications 1,073,143, 1,160,388 and 1,321,393.
