Abstract
1346895 Vibratory road rollers WINGET Ltd 25 May 1971 [25 Feb 1970] 9197/70 Heading B7H A vibratory road roller includes a prime mover connected to propel the roller at a speed dependent upon the rate of operation of the prime mover, a vibrator device, means whereby the vibrator device may be engaged with or disengaged from the prime mover, and means whereby, when the speed of operation of the prime mover lies within a range appropriate to the connection of the vibrator device, a signal indicative of this is produced automatically. The roller shown comprises a frame 1 mounted on a rear roller 3 and front wheels 4, and a diesel engine 2 in permanent connection with a gearbox 8 which drives the front wheels 4 through a transmission 9. The rear roller 3 is supported from the frame 1 by springs 10 so that it may be vibrated during the forward motion of the roller. Vibration is effected by means of an eccentric mechanism (not shown) that is driven through an endless belt 11. The belt 11 is driven by a roller 12 mounted on an hydraulic motor (not shown) that is powered by an hydraulic pump 14 that is, in turn, actuated directly from the gear-box 8. Manually operated means (not shown) is provided whereby the supply of fluid from the pump 14 to the hydraulic motor can be interrupted at will by the driver. A dial 20 indicates automatically the speed of operation of the engine 2 and is marked to indicate the range of speeds within which the pump 14 should be connected to the hydraulic motor. Instead of a visual signal being used to show when the speed is within the range appropriate to the connection of the vibration device, as in the roller described, an audible signal could be produced whilst in a further modification, the signal could serve automatically to connect and disconnect the pump and the hydraulic motor.
