Abstract

1346630 Pyridine, picolines and lutidines KOEI CHEMICAL CO Ltd 22 Dec 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 59825/71 Heading C2C A process for producing pyridine bases includes reacting at least one aliphatic carbonyl compound and ammonia as main starting materials in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of 95 to 70% by weight of silica and 5 to 30% by weight of alumina, the catalyst having been immersed in an aqueous ammonium chloride, bromide or iodide solution, washed with water, dried and calcined. In examples, a mixture of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde yields pyridine, 3-picoline and 3,5- lutidine; formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and propionaldehyde also yields pyridine, 3-picoline and 3,5-lutidine; formaldehyde and propionaldehyde yields 3-picoline and 3,5-lutidine; formaldehyde and acetone yields 2,6-dimethylpyridine; acrolein yields pyridine and 3-picoline; acetaldehyde yields 2-picoline and 4- picoline.
