Abstract
1346575 Exhaust combustion reactors; carburetters ZENITH CARBURETTER CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [31 March 1970] 15080/70 Heading F1B An internal-combustion engine has in combination therewith an exhaust gas combustion reactor 46 and the engine is supplied with fuel air mixture through a carburetter of the air valve type comprising an induction passage 22, a throttle valve 23 in the passage, an air control valve 24 in the passage upstream of the throttle valve and a fuel control valve 36, the air control valve defining a throat of variable area through which during operation of the carburetter air flows into a chamber defined by that part of the induction passage between the throttle valve and the air control valve and being operated automatically to vary the area of the throat in accordance with the depression existing in the chamber so that any tendency of the depression to vary is opposed by operation of the air control valve which varies the area of the throat accordingly. The fuel valve is also operated automatically in accordance with the depression existing in the chamber so that a control of the fuel air proportions in the mixture is provided during all conditions of engine operation. A passage by-passing the throttle valve is controlled by a normally closed valve (not shown) opened automatically by a fall in pressure in the inlet manifold below a predetermined level. Air is supplied to the exhaust combustion reactor by an air pump 19 through a gulf valve 20 operable by a fall in pressure in the inlet manifold below a predetermined value, to redirect the air supply to the inlet manifold.
