Abstract
1346472 Polyimide coatings EI DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 9 July 1971 [10 July 1970] 32359/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Wire or aromatic polyamide is coated with a polyimide precursor composition which consists essentially of: (1) a polyamic acid which is the reaction product of bis (3, 4-dicarboxyphenyl) sulphone dianhydride and m-phenylenediamine, in mole ratio 1.0/(0.5 to 1.0), and optionally #0.5 mole of methylenedianiline and/or oxydianiline; and (2) 50-95% wt. of the composition of a solvent being γ-butyrolactone and/or sulpholane. Up to 10% wt. of the anhydride may be replaced by pyromellitic or benzophenonetetracarboxylic anhydride. The composition may also comprise # 3.5% mole bis (3, 4-dicarboxyphenyl) sulphone based on the latter and its anhydride, to control the viscosity to 20-40 poise. The composition may be cured, e.g. by heating to 200‹C.
