Abstract

1346427 Flash evaporators WEIR WESTGARTH Ltd 24 Sept 1971 [24 Sept 1970] 45608/70 Heading B1B In an evaporator wherein liquid flows through a series of flash stages 10, 20 .. at decreasing pressure, the vapour evolved in each stage being condensed on pipes 11 and the condensate being collected in trays (not shown), the incondensable gases released in stage 10 are passed through pipe 12a and perforated plate 13 so that the gases bubble through the liquid in stage 20 thereby facilitating the formation of vapour-bubbles within the liquid. Plate 13 extends the full width of the flash stage. In a modified apparatus, perforated plate 13 is upstream of weir plate 3. Other sources of incondensable gas may be used; e.g. a fresh supply of liquid which contains incondensable gases in solution may be injected into the stream at selected stages in which the conditions of temperature and pressure are such that the gases come out of solution and form gas bubbles.
